LEXINGTON, KY - The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) announced today that Sixth District Congressional candidate Andy Barr has been elevated to "Young Gun" status, the top level of its tiered Young Guns program. By achieving this distinction, the NRCC believes the Barr campaign has proven it has the tools needed to wage a victorious campaign in November.

Originally founded in the 2007-2008 election cycle by Reps. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), and Paul Ryan (R-WI) as a member-driven organization, the Young Guns program has become an official NRCC effort dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates nationwide. Cantor, McCarthy and Ryan remain very involved in Young Guns, working together to build a national wave of new conservative leaders dedicated to making Washington work for middle class Americans, not the other way around.

“Andy Barr has proven that he is ready to put this seat in the Republican column,” said NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-TX). “Andy’s campaign is a symbol of the growing momentum behind Republican candidacies both in Kentucky and across the country. As Democrats and their party bosses continue to push their big-government, big-spending policies onto the backs of hard-working families, Republicans like Andy Barr will continue to present a clear alternative to a Democrat majority that continues to spend too much, borrow too much and tax too much.”

Barr said this distinction is a reflection of the grassroots support the campaign has gathered over the past nine months. "I am honored that the NRCC has elevated my campaign to "Young Gun" status.  As I travel the Sixth District I meet many people who are fed up with Washington politicians. Kentuckians are responding to my message of cutting government spending and getting people back to work."
