Pledges a New Way Forward for Kentucky and the Nation
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY – Declaring that we need a new way forward and fresh leadership in Congress, Andy Barr announced today his campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives for Kentucky’s Sixth Congressional District.
“Regrettably, our nation is heading in the wrong direction,” stated Barr. “We live in an era of trillion dollar bailouts, double-digit unemployment, massive government intervention into the private sector and runaway spending. Just this weekend, the House of Representatives passed legislation which the Wall Street Journal called ‘the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced.’ If enacted, it would increase the cost of health insurance, raise taxes by approximately $730 billion, result in massive cuts to Medicare and cause millions of Americans to lose their current health insurance coverage. The American people deserve better.”
“Over the past six weeks, I have had the opportunity to travel around the Sixth Congressional District and listen to the people of Central Kentucky. Their message is clear: We need a new way forward in Washington. We need leadership that will stop the out of control spending, prevent a government takeover of our healthcare system, and protect Kentucky jobs by promoting energy independence. Most of all, Central Kentuckians want a Congressman who is responsive to their concerns and shares their values.
“My parents taught me the values of hard work, fiscal responsibility and living below your means. I’m running for Congress to restore those values to Washington and to provide a check and balance to the party in power.”
Ralph Hacker, former voice of the Kentucky Wildcats and a member of the Campaign Committee, stated, “Andy is the kind of leader we need representing us in Congress. His values and commitment to a small, fiscally responsible form of government are what is lacking in our current representation.”
Campaign Chairman Louis Hillenmeyer went on to say, “Central Kentuckians deserve someone who represents their values. Andy Barr seeks a new direction built on conservative leadership and Kentucky values.”
