Newt Gingrich endorses Andy Barr in Sixth District race

Aug 12th, 2010

LEXINGTON, Ky – Conservative leader and Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has endorsed Republican Andy Barr in the Sixth District congressional race.  Gingrich led the Republican takeover of the Congress in the 1994 elections.

Gingrich said Andy Barr will be a leader in Congress and work to return fiscal responsibility to Washington.  “I am proud to endorse Andy Barr’s bid for Congress and am confident he will be a leader who represents the values of Central Kentucky.  Andy will lower government spending and fight against the dangerous Obama agenda.”

Barr said he was honored to have Speaker Gingrich’s support.  “I am proud to have the support of a respected conservative leader like Newt Gingrich.  Similar to 1994, I believe voters are hungry for new leadership in Congress that will work to shrink the size of government, empower free enterprise and allow people to keep more of their hard earned money.”

Barr is challenging incumbent Congressman Ben Chandler in the November election.  He was recently named a “Young Gun” by the National Republican Congressional Committee and outraised his opponent last quarter.
